The Star of the Millennium: Amitabh Bachchan

Born on 11-October-1942; to an eminent Hindi poet Shri. Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Smt. Teji Bachchan in Allahabad, Amitabh Bachchan is considered as the “star of the millennium”. Commonly referred to as the “Shehenshah of Bollywood” and “Big B”, he started his acting career in the year 1969 with the film “Sath Hindustani”; and received the “National Film Award for Best Newcomer” for the same. Later he appeared in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s “Anand” against superstar Rajesh Khanna and received the “Film fare Award for Best Supporting Actor”. However, he gained popularity when he played the role of Insp. Vijay in “Zanjeer”. After that, Bachchan appeared in many films essaying character of a person named “Vijay”. After Zanjeer, Bachchan’s image of an “angry young man” was developed.

In the year 1973 Bachchan married his co-star of films like Zanjeer and Abhiman; Jaya Bhaduri. In the year 1975, Bachchan appeared in the most iconic film of the Bollywood, “Sholay”. He played the character of Jai, and the dual of Jai-Veeru became a home name during that period.

On 26 July 1982, while filming Coolie, Bachchan suffered a near fatal intestinal injury during the filming of a fight scene with co-actor Puneet Issar. After which he remained critically ill in hospital for many months, many a times close to death. The director, however, altered the ending of Coolie after Bachchan's accident. His character was originally intended to have been killed off but after the change of script, the character lived in the end. It would have been inappropriate, said director, for the man who had just fended off death in real life to be killed on screen. Later, he was diagnosed with Myasthenia gravis. His illness made him feel weak both mentally and physically and he decided to quit films and venture into politics. He contested in Allahabad’s seat of eighth Lok Sabha and won the elections by one of the highest victory margins in election history. But, he resigned from politics in 1987 and went back to acting.

In 1988, Bachchan returned to films, playing the title role in Shahenshah, which was a box office success. However, after that his films began to flop on box-office. Bachchan turned producer during this period, setting up Amitabh Bachchan Corporation, Ltd. (ABCL) in 1996, but the films that the corp. produced flopped and the Indian Industries Board declared it a failure.

After this huge setback, Bachchan tried to re-establish his acting career by doing films like Mohabbatein, Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham and Baghban. He also began hosting the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati? Based on Who wants to be a Millionaire? During this period; and thus made his small screen debut. One project that restored his stardom was Black. Critics and audiences unanimously praised his performance and won him his second National Film Award for Best Actor, his fourth Film fare Best Actor Award and his second Film fare Critics Award for Best Actor. He then appeared in films like Bunty aur Babli, Sarkar and Kabhie Alvida Na Kehna with his son Abhishek Bachchan.
The year 2007 marked Bachchan's first appearance in an English-language film, “The Last Lear”, co-starring Arjun Rampal and Preity Zinta. Paa, which released at the end of 2009 was a highly anticipated project as it saw him playing his own son Abhishek's Progeria-affected 13-year-old son, and it fetched him some positive reviews and awards. It won him his third National Film Award for Best Actor and fifth Film fare Best Actor Award. In 2010, he debuted in Malayalam Kandahar.. After that he never looked back and went on to give some super hits like Piku and Pink.

He has won 220 awards for his films so far. The Government of India awarded him with the “Padma Shri” in 1984, the “Padma Bhushan” in 2001 and the “Padma Vibhushan” in 2015. France's highest civilian honor, “the Knight of the Legion of Honor”, was conferred upon him by the government of France in 2007 for his "exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond". Amitabh Bachchan Sports Complex in Allahabad managed by UP Sports Directorate is named after him.  In addition, a road is named after him as Amitabh Bachchan Road in his hometown, Allahabad.  A government senior secondary school in Saifai, Amitabh Bachchan Government Inter College, Saifai, established in 1997 is also named after him. In addition, there is a temple in Kolkata, where Amitabh is worshipped as a God.

Indian TV Shows Related To Defence Forces: the must watch list

Unlike today when with a few exceptions , most of the TV shows are based on household politics and quarrels mostly between the female in-laws, continuing for decades  and 99.99% marriage ceremonies not concluding successfully, we had some more sensible and meaningful TV shows in the last two decades of the previous century and the starting of 2000s. These were easily relatable to our daily lives and had motives other than ‘entertainment at any cost’. Some of these shows portrayed the defence forces  ,personnel and their lives like never before. We definitely require more like the following:

FAUJI: Most of us think of Shah Rukh Khan in circus when it comes to TV but Fauji was his debut on the Indian television. Aired in 1988-89 on DD NATIONAL, the show was said to be based on the story of Lt Col Sanjoy Bannerji of the Bombay Sappers,Indian Army.It portrays the story of a young lieutenant  during commando training and how he goes on to become a good officer.

PARAM VEER CHAKRA:  Became hugely popular among the masses , when aired in 1988. It was directed by Chetan Anand and portrayed episode-wise stories of the supreme sacrifices made  particularly by the Pram VeerChakra recepients  during wars. Puneet Issar and Naseeruddin Shah were some of the prominent actors who worked in it.

SEA HAWKS: Aired on DD Metro in the late 1990s and later on Star Plus, it was based on the challenges of Indian Coast Guard/Indian Navy . it was directed by Anubhav Sinha, Anirudhya Mitra and Shivam Nair of UTV .Mitra was also the writer of the show. It included land ,aerial and underwater action sequence between a mafia don,  and the force personnel. The leading star cast included  Om Puri , R. Madhavan, Milind Soman and others.

CHHOONA HAI AASMAAN: Aired in 2007-08 it was based on HAWK, a team formed by six officers of the Indian Air Force  in order to secure the country from terrorist attacks. The main characters were The head of the HAWKS played by Narendra Jha, Flight Lt. Sameera Singh played by Jahnvi Chadhha, Flight Lt. Abhimanyu Adhikari played by Iqbal Khan and others.

AAROHAN: Hats off to Pallavi Joshi for being the producer , writer, protagonist Nikita in the show . It was a first of its kind thing on Indian television in 1990s and must have inspired many girls to walk a different path in life. Women were not allowed in most entries in the Indian Navy when it was aired. The protagonist’s father and brother  served in the army, it was about her days in the Naval Academy during training.

SAMANDAR:Aired on DD National in 1994, the best part  about this show was that most people involved in the show were real life defence personnel. It was primarily based upon the real service stories by various Indian Navy Officers. It also included real manoeuvres of Indian Naval Fleet . legendary  army singer Col (Dr) Sultan Singh Malik was also involved  in the show, the title song became very popular.

Later on in the list we can add LEFT RIGHT LEFT aired on Sab TV between 2006-08.It was about six cadets at a military academy called KMA. The main leads were played by Rajiv Khandelwal, Priyanka Bassi and others. The latest addition that can be made to this series can be a web series  THE TEST CASE, involving extremely talented actress Nimrat Kaur.

All and all we definitely need more of these to cope up from ‘forcefully developed/scripted  love between two contestants to save themselves from elimination/dumping’ kind of stuffs.

Top 5 Most Exhilarating Movie Sequels Coming in 2018

5)Insidious: The Last Key

The fourth installment in the Insidious franchise is poised to be one of the best horror films of 2018. This movie will serve as a sequel to Insidious: Chapter 3. It will once again focus on the parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier as she returns to her family home to battle yet another demonic spirit.
As she attempts to ward off demons from the further, audiences will surely be gripping their armrests in fear as the thing this franchise is better than anyone is scare the living daylights out it's fans.

4)Ant-Man and The Wasp

Let's be honest. If Paul Rudd is headlining your film, chances are everyone is buying tickets. The actor is back for the second installment in the Ant-Man franchise which already has a release date. So put a big red circle around July 5, 2018. The film will take place in the aftermath of the Captain America's Civil War which means audiences will finally have a chance to see the world's tiniest superhero flexing his muscles in a big way, thereby shaping this to be one of the next year's must see flick.

3)Mission Impossible 6

Ethan Hunt is back. After a 3 year hiatus, Hunt his team of secret IMF agents are ready to return to action and they brought some new friends, round out the cast of Cruise, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg will be Henry Cavill and Alec Baldwin though it's not clear who, if any, will be playing the baddy. Mission Impossible 6 will coming to a theatre near you on July 27, 2018.

2)Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

You know what the say about the dinosaurs- More is always better. This movie will undoubtedly be one of the 2018's biggest blockbuster and not just because it's predecessor holds the record of being the 4th highest grossing film of all time. NO! The main reason why this film would be a surefire hit is because Jeff Goldblum is back!!
That's right, Dr. Ian Malcolm will make his triumphant return. While little is known about the plot of the movie, we think it's safe to assume the following three things: There will be dinosaurs, There will be humans trying to control them and There will be blood, a lot of blood.

1)Deadpool 2

June 21, 2018 can't come fast enough. Ryan Reynolds performance as the fast-talking gun-for-hire Wade Wilson in 2016's Deadpool was easily one of the year's best. Now the R-Rated franchise is poised for an even bigger showing, as Deadpool-2 promises to up the ante in a very big way.
For starters, the cast is getting a significant boost thanks to the addition of Josh Brolin who will play Cable- A time travelling soldier. Second, if the no good deed short film teaser is any indication, Deadpool 2 will feature the same level of blood, gore and dark humour that made the first film a box-office smash and Third, Ryan Reynolds is awesome and that's all.

Something tells that tickets sale will be on rise the next year

WHEN WE ARE DOWN

What was the last time you were really unhappy? Probably a few minutes ago, probably right now. Sure thing is, you know very well what 'being down' feels like. World is a strange place. You cannot say for certain if a person, any person is happy or not, but one thing you can be sure of. He has been sad at least once in his life. Sadness in life, like death, is inevitable, while happiness might not necessarily be so.

Students anywhere in the world have a lot of reasons to be unhappy from time to time. And  since I am a student(aren't we all?), I know these pretty well. Low marks in exam, bullying, parental pressure, inability to understand concepts, and the list goes on and on.....

But just think about it for a second. Whether you are a student or not, problems and unhappiness surely form a large portion of your life. Did you do anything about it? Did you do anything to cheer yourself up every time you feel low? Did you actively try to improve your mood? Do you even know what might cheer you up?

This is mainly what this post is about. Its about people, like me, who frequently get upset and want to relieve their sadness in effective ways immediately. So, if you are utterly content with your life and have absolutely nothing to fear, or, feel discomfort about, this post will probably not benefit you. Others, read on......

1)Songs: This might seem really simplistic and silly, but I am serious. Whenever you are happy, listen to songs. Whenever you are sad, listen to the same songs again. You will be blown away by how 'un'sad and happy you would feel after listening to the songs. You can try it right now. Just google some songs you used to hear when you were a toddler, or heard a long time ago during a joyous festival, like Dussehra, or Diwali, in your childhood, or even, say, a year ago. Listen to these now, and try to gauge exactly how you feel. You would feel like you felt when you first heard it. And since, I was talking about songs you heard during festivals, or those you used to listen while being a child, the associated feelings with those songs would be that of happiness. You cannot help but smile while these songs are playing.
After you have got the general idea of what I am trying to say here, I would like you to take it further. Create a playlist of new songs you never heard before, and listen to them once. Then mentally select some, and play them in moments of triumph in order to associate them with that feeling. Keep associating songs with a flurry of feelings so that you can listen and feel those emotions later, whenever you want. Trust me, this method works, and it works well. Have fun with your songs.

2)Helping others: I might sound like a preacher while saying this, but you must help others if you want to attain bliss. And this help might be anything. See a fellow student struggling with a problem? offer to help him. See a delivery man trip and scatter all his deliveries on the street? Be the first to pick them up.See a person fall from his bike in a comical way? Go help him while others are busy laughing at him. Its always useful to laugh with people and not at them. This makes all the difference in the world. Selfless people are most often happier than selfish ones. That is because they have a clear conscience and know that they have given back something to the society. Trust me on this. Giving back feels good. So much so, that I almost wish someone were in trouble whenever I am around, just so I can help them and get the awesome feeling of fulfillment of helping others.

3)Know thyself: Try your best and know that you have done so. Before an exam, a project submission or presentation, or even after the results are out,try to fish out the fundamentals of why you did what you did. If you did well, why? Could you do better?
And if you did not do well, ask yourself, did you really give your 100%? If not, stop worrying and try to give in as much effort as you can later. And if you did give your 100%, then be proud of yourself for doing so. If you truly know yourself, you would be able to gauge if you excel at a particular thing, or suck at it. And knowing that, is half the battle won.

4)Enjoy the small things: I know that this point sounds cliched(it is), but there is no way I will not mention it. To stay happy, one must notice the small things and take pleasure in them. Things like, a bird made a nest today, the neighbour's new TV came, etc. Just keep searching for things that make you happy and be so.

5)Enjoy fiction: Watch a TV series, or read novels, at least for some time weekly. It  would do three things. It would make you happy and would bust stress, it would open you up to new ideas and facts as you would comprehend and absorb the mentality and thinking process of the creators of the fiction along the way, and lastly, it would connect you to a vast network of communities that watch or read the same works of fiction. Interacting with such a community is really exhilerating and educating. Plus, it would also help you connect to people easily and give you topics of conversation. In this regard, I would recommend 'HOUSE MD'. The show has great dialogues and one  can learn a lot. Here is a dialogue from it if you are interested.

6)Learn something new: Why do you, or anybody else like facebook so much? Because it gives our brains what it needs the most. Information. Large, free, easily digestible information. But those informations are often not as useful as this video here:

So, its advisable, that instead of excessive facebook, you feed you mind to useful information. Did you know how to solve a Rubik's cube? Did you know what facts connected the Kennedy and Lincoln assassinations? Did you know that Albert Einstein's brains are still preserved? Did you know that some parts of the universe are moving away from us faster than the speed of life although nothing can travel faster than light?
You probably get my point. You could search and learn random things, and it is really a mood booster, and makes you forget what all problems and sorrows you might have.

7)Meditate: meditate at least for some time a day. It really improves your mentality and develops compassion and makes you strong. I meditate every day, and so should everybody. It also is a great stress buster.

8)Exercise: This might seem like hypocrisy, but you must exercise to rest and relax. Google 'runner's high' and you would get what I mean. Avid Gym goers would say that exercising is like being high on drugs, without the drugs. Its because, while exercising, the mind releases endorphins to ease the pain, and it contributes to a feeling of overall well being. And trust me when I say this, it really happens. So go out there and exercise. You will not regret the amazing feeling. Plus, you would also stay healthy.

9)Create something: Draw, innovate, write, or simply try to sing. Whenever the world is giving you lemons, you have to make lemonade. Just start with creating, and it will come automatically. I will give you an example. You could imagine a new form of governing a town.First, determine the names of its offices.'Prainage security', 'Pest control', 'Homeland friendship department' might be some of the names. Then you could start with the names and characters of people who run it. You could write, "Mr. Pomer of  Drainage Dep looks fat and has greasy skin. He probably did well in school, judging from his eccentric manner, but what he really has is amazing passion for cleanliness and a penchant for religion. Nobody could really explain why his skin always remains greasy...." and so on. Do this for every memeber of every office. After you have finished, you would have your very own 'universe' and you would be its God. You can make people famous, or kill them off in a story as you see fit. Or you could write about a chain of happenings in your town as stories. Do ypou really think you would still be able to remain stressed after doing all that?

That's it for today, guys. Hope you like what i wrote, and i hope that I was able to help you. Have a good day and be happy.
