How many movie lovers out there?? If
you feel like you’ve watched all the Hollywood hits or if you just think that there must be great movies out there
that are not so very famous, well here it is. These 10 movies won’t disappoint
you at all; rather they will remind you that you will never run out of good
movies to watch.
-
No Country For Old Men.
Set in 1980 in west texas, where the chase is on for stolen drug money, No Country For Old Men won Best Picture Oscar in 2007. This movie is not only carried by three performers at the peak of thier skills, it also functions on so many levels that its easy to lose count. Its incredibly powerful, entertaining, rich , thought-provoking and bleak. Its such a feral and odd movie that spmehow resonates louder and louder as time goes on. And impossible not to watch. There is just one word for it 'PERFECT' .
2. Million Dollar Baby.
One of my
favorites. The film shows a relationship being shaped based on a mutual feeling
between a young lady dedicated to boxing and a tempered boxing coach. Both of
them miss something in their life which they find in the other one. Never hits a false note, never breaks from its melancholy,
reminiscent tone. The story is well told, the performances (Swank, Eastwood and
Freeman) are good and it is one of those movies that you will think about
afterwards. The ending almost made me cry.
No Country For Old Men.
3. A Beautiful Mind.
A beautiful mind is an American biographical drama film based on the
life of John Nash, a Nobel Laureate in Economics. In this movie, John Nash was
suffering from schizophrenia. Russell
Crowe really shows his real talent making this film. He is one of the best
actors I have ever seen. The movie is incredible. Very emotional with a
beautiful story, and some really unexpected twists that I simply couldn't
believe . This was by far a wonderful movie. Not only did it give the reality
of the 'sane' characters, but it gave a reality to a schizophrenic that you
don't even know he is one until half way through the movie. A success in every
way. More movies should be this bold.
4. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
Jack Nicholson was awarded his first of three Oscars for his
performance as Randle P. McMurphy, a con trying to make his life easier by
pretending he is crazy, so he can go to a mental institution, or "Cuckoo's
Nest". This movie had a funny side to it but also a look at what real
mental patients might go through. Jack Nicholson really played a funny part
that made this movie very enjoyable. They don't make this kind of movies
anymore. Every single cast is awesome. One of the best movies of all time.
5. Warrior.
Warrior is a very different sports movie specially where the main theme
of the movie is MMA, but you will be amazed that apart from MMA fights, Warrior
delivers a very interesting take on relationships and how people get tried and
tested in their challenging times. It is a pretty solid movie, especially when
it comes to the performance of all the 3 characters - Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton
and Nick Nolte. Men’s and boys who have brothers can truly
understand the point of this movie. Absolutely phenomenal film. Great
performances, gripping story, and sure, while it may play into some sports
movie clichés, it is so much more than that. The heart and pain exuded by the
characters is felt by the audience as if it is our own. Great example of how
good a sports film can be. In the end of the movie even the hardest guys will
cry some tears. Go watch it if you haven’t already. Our beloved bollywoood also very respectfully
remade ‘brothers ‘ from it starring Akshay Kumar and Siddharth Malhotra which
proved to be a total bore, just like
bang bang from knight and day.
6. Hell Or High Water.
Hell or High Water, set in barren dusty lands of Texas , is a riveting
heist-drama charged with intense emotions grappled in a thrilling manner.
Evocative backdrop and trappings of western, it is a perfect ode to the
American Classical dramas, a genre that seemed on the verge of extinction. This
was probably one of the top 3 movies of 2016, and possibly the best. The script
is tight, its well directed, and everyone onscreen delivers a great performance.
This is almost a perfect movie, right down to the awesome final scene. The story is simple, but how they develop each narrative concept is
fantastic. The intelligence of a detective, the love between two brothers, everything
about the movie is flawless. The more intelligent you are, the higher the score
you will give, simple as that. If you simply don’t like action movies or suspense, then maybe this
movie just doesn’t have a chance with you. But otherwise, I think you’d have to
try pretty hard to not enjoy it.
7. Drive
Drive is a movie
which has a simple story, a protagonist with a pure and comprehensible motive
and sheared off all superfluous plots and back stories. Even without knowing
the name of the protagonist (who is simply called the Driver), the universe of
the movie seems complete. Drive is paced perfectly. From a quiet steady
beginning, the pace seems to rise in a crescendo and then cascade into
violence, which although brutal does not seem out of keeping or even
particularly shocking. Its one of the best movies of 2011 but If you're
expecting Fast and Furious, you'll be surely disappointed.
8. American Sniper.
American Sniper is an
enthralling and emotional film. While overtly it is telling the story of
Chris Kyle, Kyle is representative of the 2.5 million men and women that went
to Iraq and Afghanistan at the request of their country. The editing of the
film was spectacular. You're hooked from the moment it starts with
Bradley Cooper having to decide whether or not to kill a 10 year old child that
may or may not have a mortar under his coat.
An incredible film that had me on the edge of my
seat for the entire viewing, the fighting is extremely realistic and grim, the
acting is great, and the directing by Clint Eastwood is breathtaking. A must
watch for all war movie lovers.
9. Get Out.
Get Out is a
bizarre movie about the events that happen to a guy named Chris who goes to
visit his girlfriend’s parents over a weekend. The film is brought to us by
Jordan Peele of the Key and Peele fame. Peele is a funny guy and hence it is a
pleasant surprise to watch a thriller coming from him. One of the
most important films of 2017, so far. This movie makes the concept of
modern-day racism more accessible to those who aren’t people of color. It’s
deliciously tense, peppered with just the right amount of humor. It is so
creepy, and at the same time hilarious in some parts. The idea was very clever
and was executed well. Do give it a
watch.
10. Source Code.
Source
Code" is an ingenious thriller that comes billed as science fiction,
although its science is preposterous. Does that matter, as long as everyone
treats it with the greatest urgency? After all, space travel beyond the solar
system is preposterous, and yet we couldn't do without "Star Trek." The "science"
in this case is used to prop up an appealing story of a man who tries to change
the past. It is one of the best movies of Jake Gyllenhaal .The story was
intriguing, suspenseful and makes the central
character easy to engage with. Its like a better version of Tom Cruise's 'Edge of Tomorrow'.
So these movies made my top 10 list which are not quite famous but are awesome. Do give it a watch whatever film you have not seen yet because believe me, not one of them will disappoint you. Also do share in the comments whatever movie you like the most which others dont know about.
