Social Media A bane or a boon?

Any website that allows people to communicate or socially interact with one-another through out the world is known as social media.Social media or social networking plays a very important role in today’s world which is more inclined towards technology.Social media facitilates a global connection and easy accessibility to communicate with people across borders.

However,his amazing development in the field of computer technology is currently a debatable issue.Even though social media has led to a revolutionary change in media communication and has been an effictive tool to pursue the same,but it’s not a hidden fact that it is not completely free from drawbacks or any negative impacts.Infact to be honest,it has many illeffects.It thus brings a slight difficulty to someone to conclude whether social media is a bane or a boon.
 
Positive aspects :
Social media trend is rising across the world with each passing day, specially among teenagers.Websites and apps like facebook , twitter , Whatsapp,snapchat etc.,are the “ in ” thing in the cyber space.The increasing popularity of social media is obviously attributed to it’s positive aspects some of which are listed below :

Global Connectivity

Social media allows a global interaction with people from all parts of the world.It enables others conveniently through the internet  and know their whereabouts.

Formation of Communities

Through social media people sharing same interests can come up to form communities and further take their interest to greater platforms ,  with new innovative ideas.

Advertisement and awareness

Social media has also been playing a very important role in corporate world,specially through social media marketing and advertising . many profit and non – profit organizations use social media to spread awareness and share their product,schemes and plans.

Device Employment

somewhere it is largely owing to the developing craze of social media that the technological advances in the field of electronic devices like computers,laptops and phones have been remarkable and so have been their sales growth.People are becoming more familiar with technology which has been very significant in employing PCs,mobiles,tablets, laptops and other gadgets.

Negative aspects :

As mentioned before,social media is not completely free from demerits, some of which are stated below :

Hampers privacy
Social media,specially allows people to share their pictures,videos,ideas and thoughts online with other people .However in certain cases the people get carried away and fail to draw a line between their personal life and their life on social media.They quite often post their personal details and intimate information that was otherwise supposed to be socially closed.This information is prone to the risk of being used in some wrong way.

Cyber bullying

Cyber bullying is a serious issue that has driven many to commit suicide . It means using social media to harass,threaten,abuse,emabarrass , blackmail or humiliate someone in the cyber space. However , one can report against such issues in the Cyber-cells which are specifically meant to serve this purpose.

Negative influence on children and teenagers

Through social media kids,teenagers and young children have an access to all sorts of information,some of which may have a negative influnence on their mental health as well as their ethical code.

Lack of verbal communication

The use of social media has drastically decreased one on one or verbal interaction.People now-a-days prefer to text message each other than to communicate face to face. 

Thus it is to be concluded that social media is an excellent and important development in the field of media communication and computer technology provided,that it is meant to use with an intention of social welfare and community development and not to promote any sort of anti-social behaviour or activities.
