Exactly what comes to mind when you look at this image? Probably that it is some scene from a movie or some random conspiracy theory pic posted by an internet prankster. What if I told you that it is a 10% legit infra-red photograph taken by certified scientists with no foul play involved? Would you be amazed? The Ocean in its often unreachable depths holds a lot of secrets that we cannot quite comprehend. This, the Baltic Sea Anomaly is one of them.
The Baltic Sea Anomaly was first discovered by a Swedish based ocean exploration team called "Ocean X". When they first discovered it, I bet you could imagine their amazement. The object was huge, with a circumference larger than the base plate of The Statue of Liberty. And it also seemed that the object had left some friction marks as it slided along the ocean floor(you can see those slide marks in the picture too). And it was shaped oddly like the "Enterprise" of star treck. It had a shape akin to one we associate with spacecrafts. Further independent study revealed that a similar broken piece allegedly corresponding to the original baltic anomaly existed some hundred kilometres further from it, which, if true, would extremely strengthen the possibility of an alien ship crashing in the earth's atmosphere.
But in spite of how promising and exciting the possibility sounds, its probably not true. Many scientists claim that its probably not artificial, but a natural igneous rock formation. However outrageous assumption seems, and however we would want scientists to investigate the thing, the really brilliant people think that there simply does not exist much evidence and proof to invest in what poses to be a process that could cost a few billion dollars. So, whatever happens, real or not, alien or natural, we really cannot know an=bout how the baltic sea anomaly came into existence.
