1)The god paradox: Does God exist? It has been the age old question, and probably one, that if answered, is the end of the days of questions. But a simple line claims to nullify his existence:
" Can God make a stone so heavy that he himself cannot lift it?"
God is God, because he is all powerful. Nothing is impossible, or hard for God. Now, can he make a very heavy stone? Of course he can! Can he make a stone so heavy that he himself cannot lift it? Well, he should be. He can do ANYTHING. But, here is the catch. If he does succeed to create such a stone, then he is no longer able to lift that stone. So, there is now one thing in th e universe that he cannot do. So, the God ceases to become so, because now, he cannot lift the stone. But God is eternal and never ending. So, he cannot just die. Does God not exist then?
2)Suppose you take a piece of paper, and write on it: "This sentence is False".
What does it mean? If the sentence is indeed False, then the sentence is not false, then the sentence becomes true. But how can it be true, when the sentence itself says that it is false?
3)Time travel has not been discovered, but there are a lot of paradoxes relating to time travel. One of them is as follows:
"Suppose you go back in time and killed you grandfather, then how were you born? And who killed your grandfather in the first place?"
The answer to this paradox can be two things. Either that time travel does not exist and is a myth, or when we go back in time, we cannot do anything to alter the events of the past. This raises questions about free will. Do we have one? If yes, why would it be turned off simply because we are going back in time?
3) Different from these, and probably a lot more practical is the paradox of singularity. We all know that the universe was supposed to have originated from the big bang, which initially was a tiny ball of immense energy. We have labs that have recreated to the slightest moment after the big bang happened, and we know reasonably well about them. What we do not know is what existed before that. All the known laws of Physics break down at the exact moment of creation, and even the finest minds of earth have no idea what happened before or right at the moment of big bang, or what were the laws that governed those entities. We know nothing. Same goes for the center of Black Holes. They are sites of near infinite densities, and area also singularities.
4)The Twin Paradox: This paradox deals with the Einstein's theory of relativity. It supposes that there are two twins. One of them stays at earth and the other is taken in a space travel with speed near to that of light. Now, when you travel at a speed close to the speed of light, time flows slowly around you. So, when the travelling twin returns, she is younger than her counterpart left on earth. The paradoxical part of the paradox is that both the twins can communicate throughout their travel, and yet, one grows old, and the other does not.
These are some of the most interesting paradoxes and thoufghts i could remember for now. I will pobably update the list later.
