Pollution in Delhi

Pollution in Delhi has reached an intolerable level. People wearing varied colour masks in order to avoid inhaling harmful gases have become a common sight now. Perhaps these are the down points of being a metropolitan city. However, so much is for sure that the pollution levels in Delhi are bordering on being extremely dangerous for human health.

None is oblivious of the fact that pollution has extreme health hazards. It causes various types of diseases, especially those of lungs. People who are suffering from asthma have a hard time breathing in the city-what with the smoke and the dirt and the suffocation. Only a few days ago, it was in the news that a mist had settled all around Delhi and that artificial rain, from the helicopters is planning to be poured down.

On my journey from Delhi to Chandigarh only a few days ago, I saw this sight for myself. Vast stretches of plains covered with different crops had hovering over them a white mist which reduced visibility to a great extent. It seemed as though winter had arrived too early.

In this ever moving city being throttled by the devil of pollution, if proper measures, which are the need of the hour, are not taken at the earliest, it might eventually lead to what we all dread-its death.
