HOW TO WRITE A GOOD REPORT

Report writing is very common in syllabus of all the boards and there various kinds of report writing. Long reports should include title, table of contents, abstract, introduction and so on but here I will focus on the general report writing that is usually the part of the school syllabus.

Now the general format of report writing is :-

TITLE

CITY, DATE

B
O
D
Y

Now different schools will give different formats. For example some might tell you to write the date first and then the name of the city, some might ask you to write the entire title in capital letters. But whatever the format is like I repeatedly mentioned in my other blogs, the content should be absolutely outstanding and definitely your writing style and way of expression should compliment it. Be it anything, an article or a report or a book or film review or any other such similar things, please focus on the content.

First, title should be short, catchy, unique but relevant. The title should create a kind of curiosity that will make the reader read your report. The reader should get very little hint from the title. It should not be bizarre.

The body could be divided in to three parts.

The first paragraph should include a brief discussion of the incident. It should also include the minute details about the incident if known.

The next paragraph should include the subject matter of the incidence from the perspective of an eyewitness. This paragraph is generally written in first person. You directly quote what has been said by the eyewitness, or you could even translate it in your own words.

The conclusion paragraph should include observations gathered by the local people around. Like previous it could be written in first person or in third person.

Some strict rules to be followed during report writing :-

 1) It should be short, compact and crisp.

2) Do not use literary language but very normal and easily understandable words because you are not writing a fiction but a         report which everyone can read and understand.

3) Using normal language does not mean using same words over and over. Avoid repeating words.
