Gautam Buddh preached the concept of finding true devotion from with in.He asked men not to follow blindly but make a lead to their own ways!
To have a deeper understanding of the context we are going to address three important Questions :
What do you mean by being your own master ?
Being your own master means :
Not being dictated by the whims of others .
Not being afraid to express your self .
Loving yourself the way you are .
Respecting your own efforts .
Not being dependent on anyone for your Happiness.
Krishnamurti,(a very famous and eminently qualified writer,philosopher and speaker of all times )himself believed in the power of self devotion and honesty towards oneself which according to him can only be attained one one chooses to become the master of his own mind !
Why is it important to be your own master?Simply because we have purpose on our lives and it is only us,who can channelize the powers bestowed to us the right way.Each one of us needs to follow our own belief system and achieve the fullest of our selves . Only we have the power to make the world around us go round !
How can you be your own master ?
Now that we already know the meaning and importance of being your own master,we must know how can one proceed to do so.Here is to that :

You have to be very honest and true to yourself.You will have to look at yourself at that level where you actually belong.It is only when you are able to accept your flaws that you’ll be able to work on them and get things through.
Yes!It is the golden rule.When you’ll be able to accept yourself right where you are,with all your imperfections and drawbacks,its only then,that you’ll be able to accept people right where they are and accept them in your life for who they are!
INDIVIDUALITY
Always remember,you were born an original .So don’t die a copy !
Every soul is unique in his/her own way which is exactly why things happen differently for different people.What may have worked for others may not always work for you.Why?Because you are unique and as an individual things are never going to be the same for you as they were for them.You need to follow your own theories of life because you can’t be living your own life on someone else’s idea .

SELF CONSCIENCE
Your conscience is the most important trait of your personality.when so ever you are unsure of the decisions you took or the choices you made you just need to ask yourself this question :
“ who am I doing it for ? ”
“ For myself ”
Whatever you do is not for someone else.Your actions have the biggest impact on you youself while you are mislead by the thought of impressing others for what you choose to do.Your conscience will always strike you for not abiding by your morals.you need to believe in your self.Always remember,you are not answerable to anyone else than to your own conscience !
