In spite of what the title might suggest, the post is not about some peace march or social issue. Its personal peace and quiet for all of us.
We all listen to songs, do not we? But few of us listen to songs with utmost attention to lyrics. I'm gonna try and make you change your way of perceiving Lyrics of a song. Lyrics are the soul of a song, if the melody is its body. Lyrics take a listener into the brain of the artist or writer who wrote it.While some Bollywood song Lyrics can be really shitty, some genuinely soothing lyrics exist. I am going to talk about lyrics from some English song here, because writing Hindi in English font is really tedious and i am feeling lazy. So, lets start.
1) First on the list has to be Hotel California by Eagles. It tells an amazing story, and has a cheesy satanic conspiracy theory behind it. I do not want to give any spoilers, but would advice you to go and at least listen to the song once, or read and understand the lyrics once. I guarantee that you would be pleasantly spooked. Here is a sample:
"....last thing I remember, i was running for the door. I had to find the passage back to the place i was before. 'Relax', said the nightman, 'We are programmed to receive. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave'."
2)Next up is a simple and lighthearted song. Its name is 'Something just like this', by Coldplay and 'The Chainsmokers'. As I said, its really simple, and beautiful. There is really not much to say. I'll just tell the opening lyrics on it.
I've been reading books of old
The legends and the myths
Achilles and his gold
Hercules and his gifts
Spiderman's control
And Batman with his fists
And clearly I don't see myself upon that list
But she said, "Where d'you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I'm not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts.
Some superhero,
Some fairytale bliss.
Just something I can turn to.
Somebody I can kiss.
I want something just like this.
The legends and the myths
Achilles and his gold
Hercules and his gifts
Spiderman's control
And Batman with his fists
And clearly I don't see myself upon that list
But she said, "Where d'you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I'm not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts.
Some superhero,
Some fairytale bliss.
Just something I can turn to.
Somebody I can kiss.
I want something just like this.
3)'Carnival of rust'. The great thing about this song is the video. I wold highly recommend anyone reading this to go and check out the video. Its is awesome and has a lot of interpretations.
It's all a game
Avoiding failure
When true colors will bleed
All in the name
Of misbehavior
And the things we don't need
Avoiding failure
When true colors will bleed
All in the name
Of misbehavior
And the things we don't need
3)By now, if you really did read and understand the lyis in the same light as the creators wrote them, you should be pretty much aware of the bliss it gives to oneself. There are numerous songs with mind blowing lyrics. I am stating one last of the masterpieces. It also appeared in X men movie of 'Days Of The Future Past' in the quicksilver fight scene. The name of the song is 'Time in a bottle'
If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you.
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you.
PS, you don't have to be a poet to realize how significant, far reaching and beautiful the lyrics are.
