Corruption and India have almost become synonymous. Since independence, the leaders of this country have been constantly fooling the public on all issues. There have been all types of scams, conspiracies and what not. A large number of laws on curbing corrupt practices in the government do exist, but they do so only in the yellowed papers of the dust covered files of government offices. No action has ever been observed in actuality.
PM Modi's decision on demonetisation last year was widely lauded and appreciated as a great step against black money-a tool of corruption, but that event has also resulted in the economic slow down of our country.
The question is, when one is so entangled in a system brimming with practices like corruption, bribery etc at every level, what is to be done?
Here I am presenting my views as to how corruption can be kept in check. First off, one should remember that corruption begins from mind. If each and every citizen of India pledges that he or she will not indulge in practices that relate to corruption in any way, it will be completely eliminated. Of course, such ideality is not possible in the real world. Still, we can make some difference, it is not too late. How?
Through the tool of education. As dutiful citizens of our country, it is our responsibility to educate the future of our nation-the children of today-about the malpractices of corruption. We should instill in them a feeling of patriotism, a sense of duty towards our motherland and its citizens. We should teach them to do their work properly and efficiently. It will discourage the idea of corrupt practices for them.
Second, the government should increase the educational qualifications required for securing a government job. It should also eliminate reservation for any one in the country and at any post (this is not to hurt the sentiments of any person who is reading this).
Third, the government should make the basic qualification for contesting in elections to be atleast a graduation degree with good grades. When sensible and educated people will be present out there in the governing bodies, the situation will improve by itself (at least, it can be hoped so).
Fourth and the final, the government should work towards controlling population growth through policies and education. This is perhaps the biggest hurdle to progress in our country.
In my opinion, following these steps can help reduce corruption.
