What may initially strike the reader as the balance
received at a supermarket in or the word of the highest frequency in former
President Obama’s speech, is, in reality a much more nuanced concept.
The human brain has been wired to treat the concept of
change with varying degrees of hostility as a direct consequence of his primate
ancestry. Tea, being colder than usual, sleeping in for those extra 20 minutes
or even taking a different route to work can induce a sense of panic in the
ever so gullible man – unable to comprehend, the cycle of events he just set
off. They are constantly worried about the presence of something “new”, in
their lives. They are the ones who seem content, with their 12-hour desk job,
working their asses off for their boss and continuing to live out their entire
career over there, oblivious to the concept of change.
On the other hand, there exist a class of humans acting
indifferent to the very notion of change. They are the ones the society deems
as “Impulsive”. They are the kind who wouldn’t mind risking a good night’s
sleep for that much awaited drive to the top of the mountain. These are the
kind of people who are able to the keep their calm and see the cycle of events
under their newly made plan. It is more or less ideal to look up to such a
personality considering the level of calm he possesses. Most MNCs and other institutions
have periodic “Fire Drills”, to let the staff or the students to imbibe the ability
to regulate ones thought process under such adverse scenarios. But, they often
lack to ability to think their decision over. They are often the kind of people
caught in the crossfire of defaults and stock market crashes.
While such a clause exists, it is more or less a
chance factor. It is the what others deem often irrational mode of thinking,
that often acts as the primer for many successful startups, which couldn’t have
flowered if it wasn’t for the kind of timely funding it received.
When illustrated as a spectrum, the ideal individual
must try to accommodate himself, somewhere around the center, wherein he/she
may have to hold on to certain primal biases while, embracing the current
reality and avoiding the inclination towards being irrational.
