Hey there! So this is probably the last post you’ll see from me for some time now. I decided to explore the culinary world with you on the day of the festivities! I’ve visited some famous places around India in the last one year, and had some good food across cuisines. So here I am, sharing with you a list of must-haves from 5 of my most recently tasted cuisines.
MEXICAN
Mexican food is known for its use of fresh salad vegetables, mozzarella & salsa/peri-peri dips. Most Mexican restaurants serve their special on-the-house dips.
A must-have: crunchy taco, fajita quesadilla, cheesy nachos
Places to Not Miss: Taco Bell (Gurgaon), Chili’s Bar & Restaurant (Delhi NCR), WesteRoss (Gurgaon, Delhi)
ITALIAN
One for the cheese lovers! Yes, this one is for all of you who love to have cheese as part of your food. Mostly in India, Italian restuarants mix Italy’s subtle bread-&-cheese flavor with the Amritsari masalas to get mass attraction. Like Chinese food a few years ago, Italian food’s demand is on the rise.
A must-have: polo con fungi pasta, pasta in marinara sauce, baked lasagna, wood-fired thin-crust pizza, variety of fresh cheese, freshly-brewed coffee
Places to Not Miss: Tanto’s Pizzeria (Auroville, Pondicherry), Cafe Amaretto (Gurgaon), Outbox Cafe (Mussoorie), Mark’s Cafe (Auroville)
SEAFOOD
What is to be tried when visiting the beaches of the country? You must have these dishes when going to the edge of the world!
A must-have: pepper fry prawns, fish plancha, golden fried prawns, fish curry & rice
Places Not to Miss: Theevu Palace (Serenity Beach, Pondicherry), Barbecue Nation (all metro cities in India), Hutte Royale (Serenity Beach, Pondicherry)
NORTH INDIAN
A very wide range of dishes can be served in this cuisine, ranging from gravies & curries to grills & tandoors. Its an all-time favorite & a commonly demanded cuisine for folks who love spicy food.
A must-have: grilled/tandoori tikka, kadhai paneer/chicken curry, galouti kebabs, butter naan/laccha paratha
Places to Not Miss: Barbecue Nation (all metros in India), Al Karim’s (Select CityWalk, Saket), Tunday Kababi (Lucknow), Cafe The Kaku (Jaisalmer)
CHINESE
Seemingly the most popular cuisine these days in India, Chinese food is a low-cost option that we take many-a-times. But many people have not tasted some of the best dishes in the Chinese cuisine. This cuisine, like Italian, is a fairly bland (non-spicy) one. However, the Indian-Chinese that we appreciate has some unique dishes to try.
A must-have: Khao Suey, Pad Thai Noodles, Chicken Thukpa
Places Not to Miss: Chung Fa (Lucknow), Mainland China (Delhi), Hawkers Van (Vasant Kunj, Delhi), SideWok (Gurgaon)
