DOES HARD WORK BEATS TALENT?
Before we get into the topic, let’s see what do these two words mean. According to the Oxford dictionary, the word HARD WORK means
-Tending to work with energy and commitment; diligent.
On the other hand, the word TALENT refers to
- a natural ability to be good at something, especially without being taught
So it can be seen that handwork is the effort and sincerity that you put towards in achieving something, whereas talent is an inborn quality.
There is a simple story which explains the phenomenon well.
They were two guys both of them were really good friends. One was talented in solving puzzles and aptitudes; he considered it has a natural talent the other was the average one, who barely knew aptitude.
As they were both in their final years and the placement drive had started for them. The average boy ( let’s call him B) started working out the sums and started practising for the placement drive. He worked very hard, day and night. But whenever he asked his friend to join in ( let’s call the other one as B), he used to sit aside and solve most of the questions randomly because he was talented.
Even though he was talented he didn’t practice enough he had the capability to solve them and that made him overconfident
In the end, for B his practising paid off and he was able to solve the sums in time and he got placed
From this, we can infer that hard work can make you achieve wonders. Yes, someone who "works hard" to improve at something or just spends loads of time on something can achieve results better than someone with natural, innate talent for that activity. However, talents that align well with a certain activity do:
- make that certain activity easier
- make that activity more sustainable
- make it more likely you will derive energy and fulfilment from the activity
There’s a saying “Hard work do beat talent, but only if talent doesn’t work hard”
For instance, we can take an example of two of the greatest football players of this era, probably of the History too. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lionel Messi is a born talent whereas; Ronaldo is a real hard-working player. There are a lot of controversial debates on who is better. They are both amazing to watch. We are lucky to see them both play in our era. If there are any non-fictional tale that we could tell our grandchildren, it would be of Leo Messi and CR7.
In the end, I can say that
HARD WORK DOES NOT ONLY BEAT TALENT
BUT LEADS TO TALENT!!
