The Risks of Internet

Over the past century Internet has taken a great step to transforming our lives. It has made us more of a technological and digital creatures. It has made us more advanced and improved our living standards.

The invention of the Printing Press, Television and Radio has changed our lives that in a way that we could not even imagine ourselves. A social revolution has taken place all over the globe.

We all know the benefits of Internet. But we have forgotten about the damage it can cause to us and our lives. It’s necessary to keep them in mind as internet is not as safe as we thought it was.

There are generally 4 risks and dangers associated with the Internet. These are as follows:

1. We are addicted. Yes we might think that we use it sparingly but vast majority of us are indeed a daily user of the Internet. It is the first thing and last thing we do during the day. Now billions of users are connected to Facebook and Twitter and other social media all over the Internet.

2. We know too much but understand very little. There is so much data around in this age that new terms are needed to be made continuously. A recent survey showed 2.5 billion searches on Google every single day. Of course lot of the information are nonsense. We seem to trust internet more than we trust ourselves nowadays.

3. Privacy is under threat. We unknowingly leave behind traces of our doings and activities which can be tracked by various third parties. It’s more difficult to keep things confidential today than it was a century ago.

4. Internet crime has skyrocketed. Cyber crime is increasing and there are more talks about child abuse and racist terms being spread all over the world. The chances of us being as victims of such crimes has greatly increased.

New technology has brought new problems to our world. We love surfing the internet more than a deep conversation with our friends. We search the internet for what we don’t know instead of asking ourselves. We try to find the answer in Google about what is our aim in life instead of finding the answer in us. We have become too dependent on internet rather than depending on ourselves which our forefathers greatly cherished.

We need to connect to the natural world more often and regularly. We need to love ourselves, spend time with our families more often and forget our phones for some days. Internet is not bad but it’s actually very good that’s the problem. In today’s digitized world it is hard to not get obsessed to the internet. But we can overcome it. Self-control is key to conquering this problem. We must understand that Internet is a very powerful tool and it has the power to get in the way of our lives.
