I thought of writing up
on this tomorrow, but upon realization that it was never going to come, it sat
down to address the elephant in the room. We often live in tomorrow rather than
today. We have plans for holidaying, completing that long due assignment and
spending that hard earned money on tomorrow. The euphoric state one gets when
waking up to know that they are going to leave up to see tomorrow often makes
them lose their grip on the present.
Most of us belong to the
clan that derives immense pleasure by putting ourselves in place of the greats,
whom you encounter in the real world or the reel world. But we often dismiss
this impulse by postponing our journey of a thousand miles to the realm of
tomorrow. This is indeed a disappointing sight. Growing up with your friends,
you can very well see this change in them as they can in you, in a pretty
evident fashion. While one is in his primary schooling years, as a result of
the influence of the over concerned teachers as well as parents, one continues
to be prompt on his work. However, while one gets into his teens and starts
developing a voice for his own, he starts prioritizing the more futile things
over the other. Caught in a world of Television drama and peer pressure along
with self obsession, one often gets so concerned with the life of their “idol” that
he or she seldom introspects as to what is their gain for this very empathy. It
is often, very late that they realize that it won’t serve as a valid excuse for
the late submission or their inability to have that “Dil Chahta Hai” trip.
Now, this isn’t a phase
you want yourself to be in. But, inadvertently, one slips into it. To prevent such
a catastrophe, there are many a precaution that one can take. The first and the
foremost being the ability to introspect. It is not an easy task. It takes a
lot of effort to know oneself. But, taking a little effort to stand out of the
crowd before blindly following it into a sort of inevitable doom, always pays.
Begin by listing down as
to what do you expect of yourself. The thoughts in the brain are subject to
constant change and if you have your aims written down on a paper, it is always
safe of further manipulation by your brain.
Have a sense of direction
in life. By asking the reader to not to procrastinate, I don’t expect the reader
to do all their long due activities at once. Rather, prioritize things and
follow a sort of an agenda. While the much needed Goa trip can be finalized for
the summer, your paper, due for tomorrow can’t be further delayed. This is
where the essentiality of prioritizing kicks in.
These aren’t changes that
I expect to be brought about on a single day. There is always tomorrow, the
only change being the fact that it is from now on, it is subject to a
twenty-four-hour clause.
