Politics

The European Union of today is the result of a process that began half a century ago with the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community. Those two industries then still provided the industrial muscle for military power; and Robert Schuman ,the French Foreign Minister ,affirmed on 9 May 1950 in his declaration which launched the project that ‘ any war between France and Germany ‘ would become ‘not merely unthinkable , but materially impossible’.
It may not be easy, at today’s distance , To appreciate how much this meant , only five years after the end of the war of 1939-45 which had brought such terrible suffering to almost all European countries . For France and Germany , which had been at war with each other three times in the preceding in a durable peace was a fundamental political priority that the new community was designed to serve.
In today’s politics , expecting idealism is against realism. Let’s take the example of the current American president . Barack Obama , in his campaign for the presidential elections , emphasized on two important weaknesses of the Bush administration. He presented before the people how the Bush administration was committing atrocities on people of America . He then went onto present before the people , an idealistic view of the future of USA , under his presidency . He created a utopia of idealism . People believed in this idealistic future and Obama was elected in this president . Politicians target people’s idealistic nature to create a false sense of realism.
Thus in today's world ,there cannot be a debate on idealism vs realism , an idealism has virtually vanished from everywhere . It was look at various business organization , they may pretend that they are working for a social cause. But in reality , the only thing they are concerned about is their profits and turnovers.
