On Crushes

There is always a possibility that we'll run into someone who would instantly become our infatuation. The sweet creature we saw at the bakery shop in the morning whom we kept staring at without apparent reason, the girl on the bus with shining eyes which we just caught a glimpse from the back and then she dropped off in the next bus stop to our disappointment. We couldn’t get our minds off that moment and keep thinking it for the rest of the journey. That person left an unknown connection with us.

The idea of the Crush looks very mysterious. The girl whom we never met in our life before, never knew her name can have such a powerful impression on us. The reason the crush has such a powerful impression on us is because: the crush represents a missing part of our lives. The way she takes care of her customers and works in the shop may represent good parenting which we lack in our lives.  The girl which we saw at the street and the way she walked, may represent an air of confidence which we lack. But if we look carefully and think about all persons in general, nobody is perfect. We may not know by the first look into her eyes but there are flaws inside her. If we had a chance to know her we would find out sooner or later. The crush would upset, tell us all sort of silly things and make us angry. It is not our fault that we have a wrong idea of Modern Love: that finding the right person would make us happy and solve all our problems. We should know that all humans possess the capabilities of making each other angry and we would also do the same to others.

But our flaws and mistakes should not stop us from enjoying our crushes. It is when we try to get closer and try to know that person that we destroy the spell of the crush. We must remember that the crush is an imaginary person whom we create in our minds: a being which represents perfection. The crush doesn’t tell a lot about them but they do tell a lot about us and what they tell about us is fundamental to our development. We may never know them in person, but it would bring us closer to knowing who we really are.
