Before beginning my blog I would like to throw spotlight on some very important points. An elevator pitch is generally oral not written. Elevator pitch is an informal term. The term is generated from the situation, when your employer or financer is moving from ground floor to tenth floor for example, it takes very few minutes. In that short period of time you have to convince him or her that why he should hire you or finance you. It is a very popular term in the world of entrepreneurship.
Now ever wondered what are the important ingredients of a good elevator speech. Now here I am to explain the details that what a god elevator pitch should contain and also what to avoid while delivering an elevator pitch.
Often you have heard the question that is being asked in almost all personal interviews. That is the perfect time you can give an elevator pitch.
The major points that should be followed while giving an elevator pitch are:-
- Make the speech condensed. Restrict the speech to maximum one minute, but always preferable is less than it.
- This short speech should contain every information about you.
- Generally before appearing for a personal interview, you submit your CV to the interviewers, so try not to repeat the same things that are written in the CV. It is because that becomes monotonous. Instead you can tell them that you have already mentioned all the necessary details in the CV so you will go on to speak about what is unknown to them, because repeating the same things do not work.
- Always begin by saying your name.
- Show them your confidence. Remember there is a huge line waiting outside the office and that they do not have time to introspect the personality of the interviewee. They will see that much how much you show them.
- Be honest. You should highlight your qualities but at the same time do not lie to them and do not commit them something which you know you will not be able to accomplish.
- Practice as much as possible.
- Be gentle, but not at the cost of your dignity. Do not show a nagging attitude.
- Be unique, you should give them a reason to hire you.
There are also very important points which you should avoid while giving an elevator pitch. They are :-
- Do not speak too fast.
- Avoid unnecessary details which are not relevant. For example please do not not say it was my childhood dream to get in to your company, because remember everyone waiting outside the interview hall went with their dream, so that is something the recruiters already know.
- Do not fumble.
- Speak in the language you are comfortable. For example if you want to speak in English in order impress the interviewers but you are not very comfortable with the language it is better to avoid it. Remember language is just a mode of communication. Your matter, intelligence and experience is more valuable than the language you speak in.
- Do not repeat yourself.
- Be casual, do not freak out, have faith in yourself.
